It’s 2023.

We all know about microneedling.

Now how do we take it to the next level?

The Microneedling Basics.

Microneedling is a non-invasive procedure that projects tiny rolling needles measuring between 0.25mm- 2mm across the skin. Tiny puncture channels are created to trigger a cellular renewal response, and we use these channels to apply selected targeted serums to the dermis.

Originally based on ancient acupuncture practices, microneedling was reborn in the 1990s as a collagen stimulating technique by a team of plastic surgeons, medical engineers and dermatologists.

“Think of your skin as your lawn. Every now and then it needs mulching to stimulate a new regeneration of healthy grass” Dani

Treatments can range from a light refresh and hydration infusion right through to intense regeneration for scarred skin. Each area of the face can be treated individually with specific needle depth and active serums - meaning downtime is minimised and you can get back to your usual routine in as little as 24 hours.

Newsflash. All collagen renewing devices and treatments are essentially the same.

Yes, we want everyone to be having a form of a treatment every 6 months to maximise collagen production and skin integrity. But we are lucky enough to have multiple devices to choose from and some will perform better for your skin concerns than others.

But microneedling has the unique ability to infuse specific ingredients to a specific depth in the skin where it can be most effective. A perfect example is hyaluronic acid - we all know it delivers a supercharged glow- but in reality it’s an extremely large molecule for our skin to absorb via our pores. When delivered via microneedling channels, it’s a huge advantage for a skin with a broken barrier or severely lacking hydration.

Don’t forget that home-rolling smashes product absorption out of the park- 200% more than just applying products onto the skin. We recommend maximising on your clinic needling plan with the Synergie Skin Home Roller for just $99.

Any Questions?

  • How long between microneedling treatments?

For a plan focused on maximising serum absorption and delivering intense hydration we advise 2, 3 or 4 week intervals. For those with a goal of collagen induction, scarring improvement or pigment reduction 8 weeks between treatments is optimal so the skin is not overstimulated- this can cause a reduced response and poorer overall outcome.

  • Is there social downtime after a treatment?

Expect your skin to be red and feel like you’ve had a sunburn for a few days after microneedling. You may experience mild swelling, especially around the eye area. Staying well hydrated, regular Uberzinc application and sun avoidance will support your recovery process and minimise social downtime.

  • Who is microneedling ideal for?

Generally, It’s a treatment type best suited for those under 35 with the goals of improved skin texture and hydration, improving mild acne scarring, reducing pigment and restoring and maintaining skin health. We also find micro-needling can be beneficial for thin and barrier impaired skin, where we use it in combination with serums to enhance skin integrity. We will make a clinical assessment of your skin to ensure microneedling is the best treatment option for your concerns.

  • How many microneedling treatments will I need?

As every Client has different indications and expectations for microneedling, we will make our recommendation during our consultation to make sure you’re fully informed. For example, our treatment plan may consist of 2 microneedling treatments before transitioning onto another result driven modality to achieve your skin goals.

  • Can I have microneedling any time of the year?

The treatment will leave you quite hot and irritated so it is best to avoid hot days or the middle of summer. We advise to avoid the beach, pools, saunas or activity that will induce sweating for at least 48 hours post treatment to avoid any potential irritation and reduce infection risk.

  • Who can't have microneedling?

Needling is safe on all skin colours as it does not cause irritation of the melanocytes in the skin. Darker skin types are advised to have the treatment outside of summer as it may make the cells photosensitive. Although pregnancy-safe, we do not treat at this time as hormonal changes can prevent the results we want you to enjoy. Clients with auto-immune disorders, diabetes or on blood thinning medication aspirin will need clearance from their treating specialist before commencing microneedling.
