The masseter is a muscle in the jaw which helps you chew. It’s located on either side of your face and connects your cheekbone to your lower jawbone. Excessive clenching of the jaw over time from a number of things like stress and exercise can result in the muscle being built up to be thicker, ultimately this widens the frame of the face which may not be the desired look for some.
Injecting anti wrinkle into the masseter (chewing) muscle will create a temporary block to the nerve signals which limits movement; over time, this causes the muscle to atrophy and results in the desired shrinkage.

When will I notice?
The procedure has virtually no downtime and starts to work in 1 week and lasts for about 4 to 8 months. The muscle needs to atrophy until it reaches its fully achieved outcome which can take 8 weeks. Usually, 20-50 units of anti-wrinkle injections are required in this area per side (total of 40 to 100 units).
How long does it last?
Generally we request you return in 6 months. Your first dose often will last this long, with the second lasting a little longer.
Depending on the strength of the muscle we may need to top up in 2-3 months.
Does it hurt?
This area is generally known to be one of the most comfortable areas to be injected. There will be 3 small injection points and it can be over in as little as 10 minutes in total.
