Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) uses light energy to target unwanted colour pigments in your skin - think brown for pigmentation or red for blood vessels. When the skin is heated, your body gets rid of the unwanted cells. Skin tone becomes more even and bright, and collagen is being produced to refresh and tighten, Unlike lasers, an IPL device sends out more than one wavelength of pulsating light so can treat a range of skin conditions at the same time.

Does it hurt?
When the pulse of light is delivered, clients will experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation. Local anaesthetic applied to the skin or oral pain medications are generally not required. A gel is applied to cool the skin before vascular treatments.
What can I expect afterwards?
Immediately following treatment, brown spots will start to darken and your skin may appear slightly red. The treated area may be mildly swollen. This typically lasts a few hours and possibly a day or longer. Clean mineral make-up can be applied to cover the redness.
In 1 to 3 weeks, the darkened spots will flake off and fade. Diffuse redness or telangiectasia will decrease and your complexion will improve.
How long does it take?
Treatment time depends on the area of the body being treated. Face will generally take 30 minutes, with most treatments taking less than one hour with our highly experienced clinicians,
Can BBL help rosacea?
Rosacea is chronic and cannot be “cured” with any laser or light source, however its appearance can be improved. New brown spots, telangiectasia and diffuse redness may appear with new sun damage; however they too can be treated. Remember to always apply broad-spectrum sunscreen when outdoors to minimize sun damage and the appearance of new spots and diffuse redness.
How many treatments will I need?
Every client, and every skin, is different.
One to three treatments are usually sufficient to see results. Additional treatments may be recommended, especially for extensively sun-damaged skin.
Is IPL/BBL risky?
IPL is the treatment associated with the most adverse events in Australia. It is vital that you select your clinician carefully - that’s why we have between 15 and 30 years experience each and we take every precaution to ensure your safety. This includes preparing the skin with specific homecare, ensuring you do not have too much tan or pigment in the area, choosing the right season in which to actively treat your skin, and ensuring you are fully educated and informed to minimise hazards.
